Serendipity, the Mirlo Beach home on Hatteras Island made famous in the feature film, "Nights in Rodanthe" staring Richard Gere and Diane Lane was photographed on January 18, 2010 as it was being moved from its threatened ocean front lot to its new home further away from the ocean in the village of Rodanthe on Hatteras Island. Dare County had declared the house a nuisance due to rising seas and beach erosion.
