A fire destroyed this Maryland family’s three story vacation home on Beach Dr. in Kitty Hawk late Friday night, July 4th. The fire was reported to have been so intense that neighbors were seen watering down their yards and trees with garden hoses in an effort to keep the flames from spreading to their own homes. Firefighters were reported at the scene all night. Spent fireworks discarded in a plastic trash can near the home were believed to have re-ignited and spread to the vinyl siding covering the home. No one was reported injured during the fire; however the family's dog Magothy perished in the fire. Two cats were also in the house at the time of the fire but were believed to have escaped when a neighbor entered the home in an attempt to save the dog. The family is still trying to recover their two cats named Cleo and Chloe.
